OVERVIEW

The EduAdmin Library Module is a fully functional library administration, issuing and cataloguing package. Facility exists to store items of different kinds in the library database, such as books, CD ROMs, periodicals, slides, etc. These items form the main library database. Abstracts, analyticals and keywords can be attached to each item for searching purposes. Statistics are available on the number of items issued and the frequency of issue. Items can be catalogued using the Dewey system, as well as ISBN, ISSN and LCCN. Extensive search facilities are available to interrogate the items database.

The Module allows for easy transfer of student data from the EduAdmin Student Module into the Library Module. Six different restriction types can be attached to borrowers, including restrictions preventing the issuing of an item to a borrower if he has overdue items outstanding or if he has already borrowed a certain number of items. Fines can be issued and maintained for overdue books. A reserves function allows books to be held for a certain borrower. A full history of the items each borrow has been issued is also available.

Included in the Module is functionality to allow for easy printing of bar-coded ID cards for borrowers and bar-coded labels for items. These can be used when issuing.

A full Library Desk function is also included which is used for the issue and return of items. The use of a keyboard wedge scanner allows for instant scanning of borrower ID cards and item labels, dramatically speeding up the issuing and returns process. The Desk function will warn the user if the borrower has restrictions attached and will then allow the user to override the restriction if desired.

Cataloguing and searching functionality included a full Authority file with keywords as well as a See and See Also list. Several functions are included to allow tidying up of items database entries, such as automatically moving prefixes, updating classification codes and searching and replacing. A Stock Take function is also included.

Searching of the items database by students is achieved via the OPAC (Online Public Access Catalogue) system. This system allows for powerful searches of the items database on several fields. It also includes access to the See lists. Full details of found items are displayed for the user, differentiating between Fiction, Non-Fiction, Issued and Lost titles.
