System Requirements

As with any software package, the better the hardware specifications of the computer running the software, the better the performance of the software will be. The same is true of networks. Using a high-speed fibre optic network will be more reliable and faster than an old 10mbps Ethernet network with one old hub.

However, the following are the recommended minimum hardware requirements for EduAdmin:

Workstations
Entry-level Pentium (P4 recommended)

64MB of RAM

Hard Disk Drive (1GB minimum)

100mbps network card or equivalent according to your network architecture; we do not advise making extensive use of EduAdmin over a 10mbps network

UPS (backup power supply - optional)

Mouse

Video card capable of at least 800 x 600 resolution but preferably capable of at least 1024 x 768 resolution

Windows 98, 2000 or XP; we have found Windows 2000 to be particularly stable; if using Windows XP it is strongly recommended that all Service Packs be installed, as well as all available patches and updates.

Server

Fast P4

At least 512MB of RAM

Large Hard Disk Drive (SCSI/RAID if possible)

100mbps network card or equivalent according to your network architecture; we do not advise making extensive use of EduAdmin over a 10mbps network

UPS (backup power supply - mandatory)

Tape Backup or CD Writer

Network operating system; we have found Windows 2000 and 2003 Server to be particularly stable (it is, however, strongly recommended that all Service Packs be installed, as well as all patches and updates).  Windows XP cannot be used as a Server Operating System

Standard 100mbps Ethernet network, fibre optic or radio (wireless)

Good quality network hardware (cabling, network cards and switches)

Notes

Linux can be used as the network operating system on the server. The EduAdmin programs themselves will not run on Linux, but the EduAdmin data can be stored on a Linux machine

A fast Internet connection is strongly advised, as weekly newsletters are sent out by email and the weekly releases of the program are available for download from the EduAdmin FTP site

It is strongly advised that every EduAdmin site have at least one Systems or IT Administrator
